Retromallorca 2011 English Press Release
PRESS RELEASE
RetroMallorca 2011. Looking back at the dawn of home computing and video games.
On Saturday December 3rd at 11am, the second edition of RetroMallorca, the exhibition of retro-computing, will take place in Mallorca. It will show a complete collection of computers and consoles prior to the broad adoption of desktop PCs as home’s main computer; that is, from the decades of the 70, 80 and 90s.
Thanks to the collaboration of Centre de Cultura «Sa Nostra», Resident Games, Promo Tourism, Hotel Plaza Son Rigo, Incamatic, S2 Computer Support Sat, SD Assessors, Isobytes Baleares and Amic Hotels, RetroMallorca holds its second edition in the multifunctional hall Centre de Cultura «Sa Nostra», an area of 225m2 where over 100 different computers and consoles (MSX, Amstrad, Spectrum, Commodore, Apple, Atari, Nintendo, Sega…) will be exhibited.
There will be an area for the screening of videos and unreleased material, as well as a conditioned area intended for entertainment consoles and arcade games for all to re-experience the pleasure of “taking a shot” at their favorite game. Many experts will also participate in a tournament held during the day on the legendary Tetris game.
Alongside the exhibition, an area will be enabled dedicated exclusively to Apple, and will expose some of the oldest and most representative computer models of the company Steve Jobs founded. We will have an information point in charge of the EDIB school and outlets by Resident Games, Nexus Palma and Start Games.
There will also be a guided tour of the event and throughout the day six conferences on computer science will be held, covering all subjects related to the origins of computing and its evolution. Victor Fernandez with Juan Salvador Sanchez will make a complete tour around the history of Apple; Cesar Astudillo, also known as’ gominolas’ will explain how composers worked on many of the games’ music we saw born in our country during the longed-for “golden age of Spanish Software”.
David Vila will review the exciting history of gaming to the stage of marketing, and will then pass the token to Nestor Soriano, who after the success of his previous talk in 2010 will tell us which peripherals are being built today for these computers we took as obsolete.
Another of the most anticipated speeches will be sponsored by SD Assessors and star Gabriel Ortas, a member of Pyro Studios (one of the largest gaming companies in our country, with hits like Commandos or Planet 51), who will tell us first hand how a video game was developed in the late 80’s, and how the industry has evolved to present times.
In this edition, we will also have Pedro Trotz and his talk about the day electronics and music met and decided not to part ways anymore.
As a final note, the group Invaders will delight us with an audio-visual show.
Date
December 3rd, from 11h to 21h.
Free entry.
